The Problem Explained
Machines manufactured during 2004/2005 are known to have motherboard issues that cause hardware problems 2 or 3 years down the line.
Often these problems manifest themselves just after the Dell 3 year warranty had expired. This is good news for Dell because the don't have to fix the problem for you! However this is very bad news for you, the customer.
Until know the only way forward has been to obtain a replacement motherboard (at about £150 each + fitting costs!). Unfortunately a repair of this cost really places the unit beyond economical repair.
This leaves you with a dilemma in that you have computers that you can no longer use, and probably don't have the budget to buy a new replacement machine.
Dell Models Affected
So
far we have identified that the problem affects Dell SX270 / SX280 / GX270 and
GX280 supplied between 2004 and late 2006.
It appears that the majority of these issues occur in machines supplied in early 2005, however the problem also exists in machines installed as early as 2003 right up until machines installed in 2007.
